FAQ

A walk through our class:

We will warm up the body for 5-10 minutes with toning exercises that work all of the major muscle groups. For the next 40-45 minutes, you will try out all of the different styles of world dancing, changing the rhythm with each song. We tone your abs and use other strengthening exercises. By the end, you cannot believe the hour has gone by as you smile and cool down.

What are the benefits?

It’s fun and it burns approximately 300 – 1,000 calories per hour based on the participants cardio intensity, fitness level and dance ability. You can make Zumba a low to a moderate impact class by adding less stress on the body and spice it up with higher intensity cardio choreography. The music is programmed from low to medium to very fast paced. Your heart rate speeds up and slows down, making it easy to keep up which is based on the interval training philosophy. Zumba also engages the oblique muscles-which run along the sides of your stomach more than some other exercises do, thanks to a lot of waist and hip movement. The belly-dancing moves work the arms, and virtually all of the moves including salsa and merengue work the legs as you are constantly bending them to dance.

How should I dress?

Comfortable active wear that allows the body to appropriately cool and is easy to move.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Comfortable, with plenty of cushion and lateral support. Recommend typical aerobic shoe, dance sneakers or cross-trainer.

What should I bring to class?

Bring bottled water and a towel.  The most important thing is a to have fun and smile!

What if I am not coordinated and I can’t dance?

Be patient and don’t get frustrated! Zumba uses a lot of repetition steps in every class. After a few classes, you will learn the basic steps. Just “Feel the Music!” and most of all, have fun! Even if you can’t do a step, just move to the music! There is no wrong or right way.

What if I am out or shape and I can’t keep up?

Before you begin any type of exercise program, please consult your physician for approval. You know your own body best and most people know their limits. Work out at your own pace until you are comfortable with the routine or exercise. By your third class, you will see an improvement in coordination and in stamina! Just hang in there. You have already taken your first step toward a healthier, better lifestyle by participating in a fun, rewarding class. Be proud of yourself!”

What kind of people are in the Zumba classes?

People of all fitness abilities, ages, sizes and ethnicities.

How will Zumba benefit me?

It depends on how your exert yourself! Physically, you can burn anywhere between 300-1000 calories in one-hour but it depends on your exertion level, your physical fitness level and your dance level.  Zumba classes are not a competition as others maybe at another level…thats ok…we create an environment to have fun and be happy.  You will also build cardiovascular strength and tone muscles. Mentally, you will relieve stress, stimulate your brain by learning new steps and building your coordination; plus you will smile and sweat at the same time! After one class, you will want to come back again and again!
